Ron Thom, a renowned Canadian architect, was famous for his works: Massey College and Trent University's riverside campus. He was born in Penticton, British Columbia, and during World War II, Thom served as an aviator before graduating from the Vancouver School of Art. Although he didn't attend architecture school, he became a recognized draughtsman and designer while apprenticing at Thompson, Berwick & Pratt. Thom designed notable houses in Vancouver, winning several Massey Awards for architecture. Later, he established R.J. Thom & Associates in Toronto and became a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. In 1980, he was honoured as an Officer of the Order of Canada. He passed away in 1986, and his ashes were scattered off the Pacific Ocean at Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver.
