A perfected Bob Lewis hits the market in Whytecliff Park
We are big fans of Bob Lewis homes here at The Department. His simple post and beam structures leave you with a myriad of ways to reconfigure them to meet the standards of contemporary living. This 2140-square-foot Lewis, named "The Patterson Residence," originally designed for Mr. and Mrs. Patterson on April 1, 1959, was thought to be lost due to a clerical error in listing the wrong address. Thankfully, the home was in fact not lost but was a few kilometres away on Marine Dr. near Whytecliff Park, where it sat until Christian Woo and Talia Cohen purchased it in 2014.
Christian, a world renowned furniture designer in his own right, enlisted the help of architect Chris Hunter to help him reimagine the home. Using Christian's timeless and modern aesthetic, the two have designed what is undoubtedly one of the most refined Lewis' to date.
Washed in natural light and with a blend of indoor-outdoor living, this home is quintessential west coast modern.
The black-painted exterior is reminiscent of the Japanese method of Shou Sugi Ban, which is the act of charring wood to help with preservation. The darkened exterior pairs well with Christian’s own bold millwork in the kitchen and elsewhere throughout the house. Bringing light to this dark is the Bocci pendant hung above the dining room table and the other that twists up the main staircase. A lot of thought and consideration has been put into this Lewis, ensuring that its next custodians will feel right at home. We got into this industry to help promote the wonders of west coast modernism, and this home is a shining example.
This wonderful Bob Lewis is being listed by Sue Scott with Engel & Volkers Vancouver at $2,800,00.00. We would like thank her for sharing these images with us.
